A bit of an unusual case.

Laura owed about $21,000 for 2001 through 2008.

She also had just been laid off from her job.

IRS had also mailed a Wage Levy to that employer.

She was due to get a severance check, but the levy was due to gobble it up.

Since Laura was now technically unemployed and needed the severance check to pay her "Ordinary and Necessary Living Expenses", I told her that I could get the levy released for her and then she could get the check to buy groceries and rent and gas.

My IRS rep agreed with my assessment and worked to release Laura's levy ASAP.

My conversations with my IRS rep took place on a Friday and on the following Monday morning the Wage Levy Release had been faxed to Laura's employer and to me.

This is another example of how good the people at IRS are.
